Be Refreshed!

Proverb of the Day:  Proverbs 23:4 Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint.

Scripture of the Day:  James 4:1-3   What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Quote of the Day:  “Let my heart be broken with the things that break God’s heart” — Bob Pierce, World Vision founder

“The mark of a great church is not its seating capacity, but its sending capacity.” — Mike Stachura

The blog has been pretty neglected this month.  I volunteered to coach the CCA Jr high girl’s basketball team which has taken more time than I thought.  Between that, year end reports, new year’s vision, annual meetings, and oh yeah taking 20 guys to Nicaragua next month, the blog has been on idle.  So thanks for sticking around, but in a month I’ll have some awesome stuff as the blog goes back to Nicaragua!

Be Refreshed!

Proverb of the Day:  Proverbs 21:3   To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

Scripture of the Day:  1 Timothy 2:1-4  I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Quote of the Day:   “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”    Martin Luther King Jr.

“I don’t want  to sound like I’m bragging, but this is like the 4th end of the world that I’ve survived.”  I saw that sign on Facebook after the Mayan hype in December.  At first I chuckled but then I felt a little sad too.  Mayans, Harold Camping, 88 Reasons Why Jesus is Coming in ’88, and on.  Every time someone cries “Wolf!” we get a little more jaded.

Guess what?  Jesus is coming again!  We often times look at wars and rumors of war, earthquakes and hurricanes, but many of the signs of the times have to do with the state of the church.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

2 Timothy 3:1-5   But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

2 Timothy 4:3-4   For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

2 Peter 3:10-18   But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.  11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.  That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.  14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.  17 Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

So let’s get ready!

1.  Repent

2.  Live holy

3.  Keep your eyes on the eternal

4.  Be on your guard

5.  Be in the Word

6.  Walk in the Spirit

Be Refreshed!

Proverb of the Day:  Proverbs 7:2 Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.

Scripture of the Day:  2 Peter 3:3-4  First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

Quote of the Day:  Life was filled with guns and war, and everyone got trampled on the floor. I wish we’d all been ready. Larry Norman
